A Chat with Julia Kim

Late last year, our co-founder Roxane met Julia again in Sydney after over a decade of having some close mutual friends since high school. After a conversation about career transitions and sharing that they would love to start a podcast, they decided to do just that. Through Asian Soup Podcast, they aim to share real stories touching on topics such as career, relationships, mental health and much more. Jules is a coffee lover, digital content and SEO guru, dog mum, greyhound collar business owner of Pepper Greypodcaster and creative at heart. Get to know Jules more in our little Q&A.

First thing you do when you wake up?
Something about me is that I have a dream every single night. So most mornings as soon as I wake up, I'm trying to figure out whether I'm still dreaming or not. I'll try to fall back asleep (which never works by the way) and if it's a bad dream I'll try to wake up by checking my phone.

How would you describe your personal style?
If I had to describe my style in one word, it'd be "comfortable". Anything elastic, loose or soft to touch – I'm in it. I love to switch up what I wear depending on the day and mood, but you'll usually find me wearing basics such as a tee, jeans, and sandals – with the occasional bold pattern or colour.

Do what you can do, make that small change where you can...

What does sustainable living mean to you?
To me, sustainable living is finding a way to live sustainable that's sustainable to you. What I mean by this is, there's so much you can do to be sustainable such as thrift all your clothes, go plastic free or ditch the car and ride your bicycle everywhere. Understandably, this is not practical for everyday living nor is it for everyone – everyone's situation is so different. Do what you can do, make that small change where you can, and as long as we have the awareness or implement some small changes, I think that's realistic and something you can build on. Making one good small change on top of another, is sustainable living to me.

Any beauty secrets you can share with us?
I recently bought an ice face roller that I've been obsessed with and I swear my face has gotten less puffy since I started using it... can you tell?

Where do you channel your creativity?
Currently, I'm channeling all my creativity into Asian Soup Podcast, a podcast that I co-host with Co-founder of KIN, Roxane! I also use quite a bit of my creativity in my day job as well as side projects I work on for fun.

My keyword for this year is "balance".

What keeps you inspired?
Watching my favourite Youtubers, exploring new places and doing something I've never done before – it can be something as simple as trying a new recipe.

Your top self-care practices?
Taking a bath, yoga and surrounding myself in nature.

What's something you're looking forward to in 2022?
My keyword for this year is "balance". I'm excited to see how I can find "balance" in my days, weeks and months of 2022 and what "balance" even means to me. 2022 – let's do it!
